James Kumagai is a British-Japanese artist and musician based in Liverpool. His work uses imagery that considers or perhaps alludes to the relationship between commitment and distraction in the age of the attention economy. Kumagai blends memory with art historical and pop culture references to build scenes that relate to cycles of tension and gratification that may be found in addiction, as well as the painting process itself.
