Agata Stradczuk
Mrs Halinka, Do You Remember? / Pani Halinko, Pamiętasz?
Agata Stradczuk is a Polish artist presenting Slavic culture in its candid state through her nostalgic lens as an immigrant. Informed by her life and annual visits to Poland, she cyclically produces portraits as we follow the formation of her cultural understanding. In this series Mrs Halinka, Do You Remember? Stradczuk confronts the viewer with the reality of her grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Humour is the age-old coping mechanism for trauma, but in Stradczuk’s pieces it merely elevates the dread of mental loneliness.
