Dorcas Hope’s work offers counter-hegemonic representations of black female figures in visual art, using traditional oil paintings and sculpture. Mirrors and reflections are tactically used to examine identity and gaze. Hope’s portraits work to rewrite historical western narratives whilst also celebrating blackness.
