Drawing from everyday poetics and communication in a digital age, I explore the
performance of speech and how meaning is both constructed and obscured through vocal expression. My practice involves experimenting with the delivery of speech, manipulating intonation, pitch, tone, and volume. Testing the interplay between live performance and recorded speech shows me how they can disrupt each other, generating ambiguity in realism and creating dispersal of attention for the audience. I oscillate between these processes to play with the contrast between fixed, disembodied language and the context-dependent nature of spoken word. This exploration involves working across disciplines of text, performance, and film, challenging linear structures and conventional understandings of speech through fragmentation and disruption.
