MA Art in Science

Helen Lydon

As a materials artist, Helen’s tactile work responds to aspects of science, in particular cognitive neuroscience. Material selection, design, and haptic processing are key features of Helen’s practice. She also values academic research and cross-disciplinary collaboration as rich input into creative development and sees significant overlap between cutting edge scientific and artistic methodologies.

Minds Re-Imagined

This project looked into how contemporary neuroscientific understanding of the brain as ‘Embodied’ (i.e., intrinsically part of and influenced by our bodies, experiences and environment) can be explored and manifested in art, using creative processes and metaphors. The project included a public-facing exhibition at The Brain Charity, Liverpool, in collaboration with neuroscientist Dr Joshua Kearney.
