Samir Edwards Sutton

‘S.elf A.ware M.asking’ (S.A.M.)

An adaptive-wear fashion collection which reflects autistic people’s experience of masking.

Autistic people, including myself, tend to mask their own traits or inherit traits from others to camouflage and fit into society. This collection has been developed with neurodiversity in mind, paying consideration to appropriate fabric, silhouette and fastenings whilst respecting the design, style and manufacture suitable for individuals who mask.

The collection has an accompanying look book photographically highlighting each adaptive-wear design through the lens of masking.

Samir is an adaptive wear fashion designer who uses his own experience to develop authentic gender-fluid collections suitable for both neuro diverse and non-neuro-diverse demographic. The MA collection is specifically inspired by ‘masking’. Masking is a common trait among autistic individuals where they may suppress or adopt behaviours to blend in and camouflage their autism. This is the first collection developed under the brand S.A.M.
