Imprints of Heritage: Nature's Whispers in Wood and Ink

A research project nurturing and preserving the Indian artisan craft of block printing.

The project aims to highlight the disappearing handcraft of block printing and inspire and educate a new generation to adopt the artisan skill. Working with craftspeople from India to design nature inspired motifs the wooden blocks come to life through the skilled hands of artisans. Their stories are captured and shared online via QR codes along with the history of the craft itself. Disseminating, nurturing and preserving the traditional artform, and inspiring others to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that has endured through generations.

Sowmya is an international student from India whose research is rooted in highlighting, nurturing and preserving traditional artisan craft and skill. Sowmya has developed methodologies to aid the passing down of key knowledge, whilst promoting the artisans, sharing the expertise and educating next generations.
